Fun Warm Up Sketch Exercises

Warming up before you sketch or get to making a finished work can help get you in the mindset of creating. Although, it is not a completely necessary step for everyone when creating it is well worth the effort if you do. Through my years of creating I found some fun ways to warm up a few minutes before diving into a big project or if your just having fun sketchin' around.


- Blobs: Make some random blobs on a page in any medium you want then draw what you see within the blobs.


- Circles and squiggles: This might seem quite silly but just let you mind drift and let your hand move continuously making circles and waves whatever shapes you want. Don't try and make anything just move your hand and make the motions and lines that come naturally to you.


- 3D loop: Make a very faint line have some fun looping and waving it around and then be sure to connect it back to the beginning. Then go back in and make the squiggle loop into a 3D object and try to shade it accordingly thinking of a light source.
